ROBBEN ISLAND / CITY TOUR
1/3
The tour commences with a ferry trip across the bay to Robben Island. (Weather permitting). Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum.
The excursion includes a return ferry to the island, where a bus will be waiting to take you on a tour of the island and of the prison. When you return you will enjoy a drive to Langa the oldest Townships and experience a walking guided tour where you will see different housing and informal settlements. Langa Township is located in the Western Cape, South Africa and is approximately 13 km from Cape Town. The township was developed as part of South Africa’s 1923 Urban Areas Act and was formally opened in 1927. It is considered the oldest township in Cape Town and served as a resistance to the apartheid government. The area is served by the Langa Railway Train Station and is bordered by the N2, the N7, and Jan Smuts Drive, making it easily accessible.
Thereafter a drive through the City Centre would also take you past the Houses of Parliament, the Grand Parade and City Hall from where Nelson Mandela first addressed South Africans after his release in February 1990. Before heading back to the Hotel you will visit Bo-Kaap “The Malay Head-Quarters” with the colourful houses. Return to your hotel by 17h00.
